Deep Black: Reloaded is a game stuck between two worlds. To expensive to be truly considered an arcade game but not enough content to be a full retail release either. Deep Black sits awkwardly in the middle, not really sure what it wants to be.
Deep Black is set in 2047. You control Syrus Pierce, an ex-mercenary called back in by his former commanding officer, General Jack Sterling, for one last mission. Throw in a dash of corporate espionage, an ounce of bio-terrorism, and some pretty terrible dialog and you have Deep Black.
The story is rough to say the least. The opening act of the game is almost impossible to follow. Basic questions like, Why am I sneaking into this base? Where are the hostages I keep hearing about? and who are these random people giving me orders? are never fully explained. The games opening doesn’t do anything to help set up events either, It gives a very quick break down of a few acronyms you’ll be hearing over and over again, well poorly introducing two main characters.
Deep Black may stumble badly out of the gate but once the story gets going it goes from bad to bearable. Giving you just enough loose context to keep moving forward.
